How my interview, Avoiding Arthritis, ended up in a tabloid magazine with 1.6 million readers!

Susan Baumgaertel · May 5, 2025

Let’s face it…

We’ve all had a bum knee or bad back on occasion.

But, some of us also have joint pain and stiffness that goes beyond our reckless youth or history of sports injuries.

Is there any way to avoid arthritis?

Periodically, I get called by writers for national magazines to do an interview on pertinent health topics.

Even though some of them are supermarket tabloid magazines—you know, the kind you thumb through because you simply must read about the woman who lost 50 pounds of belly fat—I feel it is important to disseminate evidence-based health information whenever I can.

This is my third time being interviewed for Women’s World, and I’m delighted to say that the article turned out nicely.

Yes, I had a few chuckles that made me wonder, did I really say that?!

But, I gave good information about arthritis prevention and I was happy to serve as an expert—patient and physician.

We can’t avoid getting older, but there are some simple steps to take to reduce the chances of developing joint problems.

And, most of these also apply to reducing pain and stiffness for those of us who already have arthritis.

I hope some of these tips are helpful for you.

It’s a quick read…unless you get sidetracked by the home & gardening or beauty & grooming sections!
