Theresa has Grit!

Susan Baumgaertel · October 5, 2022

Are you in postmenopause and having a hard time managing your joints? What about your weight and stamina? Is your motivation lacking?

October is World Menopause Month, and this story contributes to the celebration of all who have gone through menopause.

Moving your body daily is a must, and what better way than by setting personal goals.

I first met Theresa in my Menu for Change program in 2012. She wanted to work on weight management as well as improve her health, get off medications and set herself up for better aging.

It was clear from the start that Theresa had grit! She quickly got into a great exercise routine coached by her personal trainer, Clay Fife. Ten years later she has never looked back.

Along the way she decided to enter the Base2Space stair climb for charity.

For those of you in the Seattle area, you are quite familiar with our iconic Space Needle that was built in 1962 for the World’s Fair.

Although visitors must ride to the top in an elevator, there are open-air stairs – 832 to be exact!

In 2015, Theresa was one of the first to participate in the Base2Space: Seattle’s Most Iconic Climb. This became an annal event to raise money for charity, and is the only time the stairs leading to the observation deck are open to the public.

Except during the early pandemic when the event was cancelled, she has done this event every year.

Well, she did it again on October 2nd, 2022. Congratulations, Theresa!

I hope you are inspired by Theresa’s story and start planning your own personal movement goals.

Your menopausal body, mind and soul will thank you.

Postscript: My gratitude goes to Theresa for allowing me to use her information and picture for this story.

Postscript #2: Since this blog was first posted it has also appeared on Doctors on Social Media.
