Voices With Vigor: Rediscovering Ourselves — Slowing Down to Reclaim Our Narrative

Susan Baumgaertel · June 21, 2026

At some point, most of us stopped asking what we wanted… 💫

And started performing what we thought the world expected. ✨

The degrees, the promotions, the relentless pursuit of “enough,” each one a rung on a ladder we never stopped to question.

But what if the ladder was against the wrong wall? What if the bravest thing you could do was climb down, look around, and ask: Who am I when I stop performing?

For those of you who’ve been part of our growing community:

You know this is the essence of Voices With Vigor (VWV), a monthly gathering where unscripted conversations replace rehearsed ones.

VWV welcomes remarkable individuals who’ve chosen a different path. People who looked inward when the world told them to keep pushing forward.

Together, we make room for the questions we’ve been avoiding:

What happens when we detach our worth from our titles, trade people-pleasing for self-compassion, and give ourselves permission to begin again. 🌱

This July, I’m honored to welcome someone who has lived these questions at their most extreme and emerged with hard-won wisdom about what it means to come home to yourself.

In a culture that rewards achievement at the expense of authenticity, this voice offers a courageous invitation to live differently. 💫

🍵 Tuesday, July 14 (10-11 am PT): Morning Tea with Jillian Rigert

Jillian is a Martha Beck Wayfinder Master Coach, Lodestar Certified Trauma-Informed Professional Coach, oral medicine specialist, and Air Force veteran.

Her story spans fast-tracking into military surgical residency, a medical discharge, a life-threatening battle with anorexia nervosa, and multiple career pivots that ultimately led her back to herself.

Today, she partners with high achievers to shed the oppressive societal messages that drive them further from what matters most and create lives true to their authentic values.

We’ll discuss how narrative therapy helps us externalize the stories we’ve been told about who we should be, what it takes to rebuild identity after trauma and career loss, where our beliefs about worthiness originate, how chronic stress and conformity impact our nervous systems, and why giving yourself permission to pivot might be the most important decision you ever make.

What stood out most was the spirit of the VWV series itself: not just amplifying individual voices, but weaving them together in a way that fosters connection, insight, and hope. It’s a rare and refreshing return to the kind of dialogue that invites reflection rather than reaction. — Amna Shabbir, MD, NBC-HWC, Success Curated, LLC, North Carolina

This conversation promises vulnerability, wisdom, and the kind of honesty that only comes from someone who nearly lost everything before choosing to live differently.

Rather than keep climbing a ladder that was taking her further from herself, she stepped off and forged her own way forward.

You’ll hear from a coach and survivor who proves that starting over can be the beginning of everything that matters…

With opportunities to bring your own questions into the dialogue.

I hope you’ll join this thoughtful exchange.

Let’s honor a voice that reminds us we are worthy and enough, independent of our achievements, our titles, or anyone else’s opinion of us. 🌟

P.S. The conversations that change us most happen when someone who has been to rock bottom looks you in the eye and tells you what they learned there. That’s what this conversation with Jillian promises. I hope you’ll be there. ✨
