Why Patient Advocacy Is Essential to Improving Women’s Healthcare
Nirvana.
Not the rock band…
The feeling when two professional passions intersect.
Last month, I experienced professional nirvana when I spoke to Massachusetts Health Care Advocates (MAHCA) on The Menopause Pendulum: Healthcare Advocacy for Women in 2026.
Perimenopause and menopause affect every woman, but healthcare still isn’t meeting the moment. Perimenopause symptoms are often dismissed, hormone education is inconsistent, and women are left to self-diagnose and self-advocate.
These are not individual failures. They are systemic healthcare gaps.
During our session, we explored:
• Perimenopause and menopause basics
• Hormones and individualized care
• Medical system challenges
• How women can advocate for themselves
• What healthcare must improve now
Advocacy changes outcomes and education creates power.
Women deserve better care.
