A conversation on strength, caregiving, and physician-led care
Four years split between two exam rooms, one for strangers’ children and one for a sister receiving cancer treatment. Three clinical trials, multiple surgeries, hospitalizations, and rounds of chemotherapy blurred into one relentless chapter. Somewhere in that split life, a doctor learned what devotion costs.
Christina Dewey had already spent years practicing pediatric medicine before her sister’s diagnosis. That training gave her tools most family members never get, but the years that followed tested every part of her, both as a doctor and as a sister.
That kind of conversation is exactly what Voices With Vigor (VWV) exists to make room for. Once a month, our community comes together for honest, unscripted talk about what makes up a full life.
Christina’s story is the reason this month’s theme is “Strong Women: Holding Up the Sky With Sister Love.”

☕ Tuesday, November 10 (10-11 am PT): Morning coffee with Dr. Christina Dewey
Christina is a pediatrician, patient advocate, and founder of PedsMamaDoc, LLC, practicing and advocating for families from the Twin Cities Metro area. Her writing appears in KevinMD, Physician Outlook magazine, SoMeDocs, and Prevention of Burnout in Medicine, and she is a contributing author in the bestselling book Made For More.
Christina stood beside her sister, Catharine “Cat” King, through repeated surgeries and clinical trials, until her sister’s passing in the beginning of 2026.
We’ll talk about what it means to become a sister’s advocate and clinical eye through years of treatment, how physicians balance caregiving and family responsibility alongside their own careers, why Christina pushes back against the word “provider” in medicine, and how being present for someone through the hardest parts of illness becomes its own form of care.
And, as always, you’re welcome to bring your own questions.
We would be honored for you to join us. 🌟

What a joy to join Dr. Susan Baumgaertel of Voices With Vigor for such a thoughtful, engaging conversation! I loved how naturally we moved through topics of midlife, our relationships with food, and the many ways we nourish ourselves. Our conversation took wonderful, unexpected turns, yet always found its way back to the heart of it all: what it truly means to nourish ourselves as whole individuals, through every stage of life. Susan has a beautiful way of creating space for conversations that feel both casual and deeply meaningful. — Sabrina Falquier, MD, CCMS, DipABLM
